Marriage Assistance Project

Supporting Vulnerable Brides with Dignity and Care

On 9 June 2026, a Marriage Assistance Project was successfully carried out at Chilawathurai School, Mannar District, with funding provided through a donation from Mother Helpage UK. The project was implemented by ISRC Sri Lanka to support five vulnerable brides from low-income and orphaned families.

The project was developed in response to the financial difficulties faced by vulnerable families in meeting essential marriage expenses. Through targeted assistance, the project aimed to reduce this burden and enable the beneficiaries to proceed with their marriages with dignity and confidence.

Assistance for Five Vulnerable Brides

The five beneficiaries received support towards essential marriage-related needs, including venue expenses, rings/gold, wedding food and security support.

The assistance distribution event on 9 June was attended by approximately 40 family members, community representatives and local leaders. The support provided meaningful relief to the beneficiary families, helping them manage important marriage expenses without significant financial hardship.

One beneficiary expressed her appreciation, sharing that the assistance had relieved a significant burden on her family and enabled the marriage arrangements to be completed with dignity and peace of mind.

A Community-Focused Initiative

The project was implemented through a transparent process of beneficiary identification, verification, safeguarding and monitoring, with the involvement of community leaders and local stakeholders.

The project demonstrates the positive impact that targeted support can have on vulnerable families. Through the generous Mother Helpage donation, five women received practical assistance at an important stage of their lives, helping them begin their married lives with greater dignity and peace of mind.
