FROM THE FOUNDER
Our story
Mother Helpage was born from a deeply personal loss and a lifelong commitment to service.
In memory of Mother Jamilah Nasti
Mother Helpage was born from a deeply personal loss and a lifelong commitment to service. Following the passing of my mother, Mother Jamilah Nasti, on 26 May 1994, I established Mother Helpage in September 1994 in Jammu and Kashmir, India, in her memory and in honour of the compassion, strength, and values she embodied.
My mother believed that meaningful help must go beyond temporary relief. She taught that dignity, opportunity, and self-reliance are essential to lasting change. Guided by these principles, Mother Helpage began its work supporting vulnerable communities through initiatives designed to restore hope and build resilience.
As the organisation’s work expanded internationally, Mother Helpage was formally registered in the United Kingdom in 2007, strengthening its capacity to operate globally and build sustainable partnerships. Today, Mother Helpage UK works in more than 42 countries, supporting communities facing poverty, exclusion, and long-term vulnerability.
Our programmes address essential needs such as nutrition, healthcare, shelter, and clothing, while placing strong emphasis on income-generating initiatives, vocational training, and community-led development. These efforts are designed to empower individuals and families to create sustainable livelihoods and resilient futures.
Recognising the growing complexity of global challenges, Mother Helpage UK has reaffirmed its commitment to sustainability. From 2026, sustainability is embedded across all our projects and programmes, ensuring that every initiative prioritises long-term impact, environmental responsibility, and local ownership.
Mother Helpage remains a living tribute to my mother’s legacy and a reflection of our shared belief that communities become resilient when people are equipped with the tools, skills, and opportunities to shape their own futures. I am deeply grateful to our partners, volunteers, and supporters who continue this journey with us.
