Cancer Treatment Support for Palestinian Refugees in Cairo

Assisting Palestinian refugee patients with life-saving medical care, including chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and essential diagnostic tests and scans.

Standing With Patients in Their Most Difficult Battle

Serious illness is one of the most overwhelming challenges any person can face. When that illness is cancer, the journey becomes physically exhausting, emotionally draining, and financially demanding. For displaced families living far from their homeland, the burden becomes even heavier.

Among Palestinian refugee families in Cairo, many individuals are currently fighting cancer while also navigating the realities of displacement. They face not only the fear and uncertainty that comes with diagnosis, but also the urgent question:

How will we afford treatment?

Mother Helpage has responded to this urgent need with compassion and responsibility. Through our Cancer Treatment Support Program in Cairo, we are assisting Palestinian refugee patients with life-saving medical care, including chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and essential diagnostic tests and scans.

Alhamdulillah, with the support of our donors, we have already supported more than 150 cancer patients. Yet many more continue to wait for help.

This is an appeal to stand with them in their most difficult battle.

The Hidden Crisis: Illness in Displacement

Displacement disrupts every aspect of life. Stable employment becomes uncertain. Savings are often exhausted. Access to healthcare becomes complicated and expensive.

When cancer enters this fragile situation, families are pushed into crisis.

Cancer treatment is not a one-time expense. It requires:

  • Multiple chemotherapy sessions
  • Radiotherapy cycles
  • Regular blood tests
  • CT scans, MRI scans, or PET scans
  • Specialist consultations
  • Medication support
  • Ongoing monitoring

These treatments are time-sensitive and cannot be delayed without serious risk. Missing even one session can affect recovery outcomes.

For refugee families living on limited income, the cost of treatment quickly becomes overwhelming. Some patients delay care. Others reduce treatment frequency. Some struggle to complete prescribed cycles.

No patient should have to choose between life-saving treatment and basic survival.

Our Response: Medical Support With Dignity

Mother Helpage’s Cancer Treatment Support Program in Cairo was established to respond directly to these urgent needs.

Our support focuses on:

  • Funding chemotherapy sessions
  • Covering radiotherapy treatments
  • Sponsoring diagnostic scans and laboratory tests
  • Assisting with essential medications where possible
  • Providing emergency intervention when urgent care is required

We work with verified medical providers and conduct careful case assessments to ensure that each patient receives appropriate support based on medical documentation and financial need.

Every case represents a human being fighting for their life.

Why Cancer Treatment Support Is Critical

Cancer does not pause for financial hardship. It does not wait for stability. It requires immediate and consistent care.

Without timely treatment:

  • Tumors may progress
  • Complications may increase
  • Survival rates may decrease
  • Physical suffering intensifies
  • Emotional distress grows

Early and continuous intervention can significantly improve outcomes. Chemotherapy and radiotherapy, though physically demanding, are often essential components of recovery.

Regular scans and tests allow doctors to monitor progress, adjust treatment plans, and detect complications early.

By funding these critical services, we are not only paying medical bills. We are preserving life, protecting families, and offering hope.

The Human Side of Treatment

Behind every medical report is a story.

A mother undergoing chemotherapy while trying to comfort her children.
A father attending radiotherapy sessions while worrying about rent.
A young adult facing cancer diagnosis in the prime of life.
An elderly patient traveling long distances for hospital visits.

Cancer treatment is exhausting. Side effects may include:

  • Nausea and fatigue
  • Hair loss
  • Weakness
  • Emotional strain
  • Increased vulnerability to infection

Patients need strength, rest, and emotional stability to endure treatment. Financial stress only adds to their burden.

When treatment costs are covered, patients can focus on healing rather than survival.

Supporting Over 150 Patients — And Continuing

Alhamdulillah, through the generosity of our supporters, Mother Helpage has assisted more than 150 Palestinian refugee patients in Cairo with cancer treatment expenses.

This support has included:

  • Full chemotherapy cycles
  • Radiotherapy packages
  • Emergency tumor assessments
  • Diagnostic imaging
  • Laboratory monitoring

For many families, this assistance made the difference between starting treatment immediately or facing dangerous delays.

Each patient supported represents:

  • A family protected from catastrophic debt
  • Children spared the trauma of untreated illness in a parent
  • A community strengthened through compassion

Yet the need remains urgent.

New diagnoses continue to arise. Ongoing patients require further cycles. Follow-up scans are essential to confirm recovery.

The journey does not end with one payment.

The Financial Reality of Cancer Care

Cancer treatment is complex and expensive. Even with modest pricing, costs accumulate quickly due to:

  • Multiple chemotherapy sessions over month
  • Radiotherapy courses requiring daily hospital visits
  • Pre-treatment evaluations
  • Post-treatment monitoring
  • Recurring scans every few months
  • Medication for side effects

For displaced families with limited earning capacity, these costs are often impossible to sustain.

Many households are already struggling with rent, utilities, and food. Adding cancer treatment expenses can push them into severe hardship.

Medical debt, borrowing from others, and delaying care become desperate coping mechanisms.

Your support interrupts this cycle.

Protecting the Most Vulnerable

Among the patients we assist are:

  • Women battling breast cancer
  • Men undergoing treatment for advanced-stage conditions
  • Children requiring urgent oncology care
  • Elderly patients with limited mobility
  • Individuals with additional chronic illnesses

Each case requires sensitivity, privacy, and urgency.

Children with cancer are particularly vulnerable. Their treatment must be consistent and carefully monitored. Delays can have serious consequences.

Elderly patients may struggle with transportation and physical endurance. Women undergoing treatment often continue caring for families despite their illness.

Our support recognizes these vulnerabilities and responds accordingly.

The Importance of Regular Scans and Tests

Cancer treatment is not limited to chemotherapy or radiotherapy alone. Diagnostic tests are equally vital.

Regular blood tests help monitor:

  • Organ function
  • Infection risk
  • Treatment tolerance

Imaging scans such as CT, MRI, or PET scans help doctors:

  • Assess tumor response
  • Detect recurrence
  • Identify complications
  • Adjust treatment plans

Without these tests, medical teams cannot make informed decisions.

Unfortunately, scans can be expensive and are often postponed by patients who cannot afford them.

By funding diagnostic services, we ensure that treatment remains safe, precise, and effective.

A Trust and Responsibility

Every donation entrusted to Mother Helpage is treated as an amanah — a responsibility that must be handled with integrity.

We ensure:

  • Verification of medical reports
  • Assessment of financial need
  • Direct coordination with healthcare providers
  • Transparent allocation of funds
  • Proper documentation of support

Our goal is not only to provide assistance, but to do so responsibly and sustainably.

Donors deserve transparency. Patients deserve reliability.

Emotional and Spiritual Support

While financial assistance is crucial, emotional reassurance also matters.

Many patients express deep gratitude not only for financial help, but for the knowledge that someone cares.

Knowing that a compassionate community is standing behind them provides psychological strength during treatment.

Cancer can feel isolating. Support restores connection.

Compassion strengthens resilience.

Ongoing Appeal: The Need Continues

Although we have supported over 150 patients, the need has not diminished.

New cases continue to emerge. Existing patients require additional treatment cycles. Follow-up scans must be completed.

Without continued support:

  • Treatments may be interrupted
  • Appointments may be postponed
  • Health outcomes may worsen

We urgently appeal for continued and expanded assistance to ensure that no cancer patient is left untreated due to financial hardship.

How You Can Help

Your support can directly fund:

  • One chemotherapy session
  • A full chemotherapy cycle
  • Radiotherapy treatment
  • Diagnostic CT or MRI scan
  • Laboratory testing
  • Emergency medical intervention

Every contribution matters. Whether you sponsor a full treatment package or contribute toward a portion of care, your donation becomes part of a life-saving effort.

Giving toward medical care is an act of mercy with profound impact.
